Winfred "Pal" Dwight Koontz Sr., 88, passed away at home on Saturday, August 24, 2024. Born on May 14, 1936, he was the son of the late Denna and Gladys Koontz.

Winfred graduated from Ripley High School in 1955 and went on to serve in both the Army and Air Force. He retired from C & P Telephone after 33 years. Winfred was passionate about working on cars, trucks, and antique tractors in his garage, and he enjoyed hunting with his family. He also found great joy in sitting on his back porch, watching the deer, birds, and wild turkeys.

In addition to his parents, Winfred was preceded in death by his sisters Mildred Bledsoe, Joyce Wilkinson (and her husband Paul), and Sharon Louise Koontz.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Ina Boggess Koontz; his sons Dwight Koontz (wife Sheryl) and John Koontz (fiancé Vania); and his daughter Lorrie Balog (husband Doug). He also leaves behind his brother David Koontz (Lori), his sister Pam Sarrett (husband Jerry), and his brother-in-law Ted Bledsoe. His cherished grandchildren include Zachary Koontz (Jamie), Jacob Koontz, Marshall Koontz, Garrett Balog, Colton Balog, and Maddox Balog. Winfred's loyal companions included his dog Dollie and his cat Kitty.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to hospice staff Debbie, Sam, Sarah, Rhianna and especially his private caregiver Jessica Davis for her exceptional care.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Hospice Care of WV. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Fisher Chapel, 404 Middle Fork Road, Kenna, WV.
