Walter Ray Smith, 83, of Lebanon, Tenn., died Sunday, March 20, 2011, at his residence following a long illness. His wife and children were by his side.
Mr. Smith was a native of Charleston, W.Va. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Smith was employed in the electrical distribution business for over 45 years. He retired in 1994 as manager of the Princeton Electric Plant Board, Princeton, Ky. Mr. Smith was the son of the late Glenn Monroe and Bessie Blanche Blackshire Smith.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Donald Paul Smith; and his identical twin brother, Wilbur Jay Smith, on February 24, 2011.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Kathryn A. Nichols Smith of Lebanon, Tenn.; children, Delmar R. (Betty) Smith Sr. of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., Walter Wayne (Nan) Smith of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., Janice K. Rice (David) McCord of Nashville, Tenn., and Gary A. (Anne) Smith SR. of Louisville, Ky.; brothers, Willy Frank Smith, Glenn Monroe Smith, and James Edison Smith; sisters, Wanda Matheney Haynes, Wilda M. Parsons, Verlie F. Payne and Rose Mary Brooks; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. EST Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at Long & Fisher Funeral Home, 6837 Sissonville Drive, Sissonville, W.Va. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Garden of Memories.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bond Memorial Chapel, Mt. Juliet, Tenn., and from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Long & Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville, W.Va.
