Virginia Belle Whittington Wilkinson, age 95, died of natural causes on October 5, 2013. She was born on November 28, 1917, the only daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Norma Mae Bradley Whittington, of Sissonville. She lived the majority of her life in the Sissonville community and enjoyed family, church, and community activities. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Richard Wilkinson, who died on July 8, 2008.
She is survived by her oldest son, Dr. Ronald L. Wilkinson, his wife Judith Smith Wilkinson of Morgantown, WV, granddaughter Dr. Lynn E. Wilkinson, her husband David Connery, great-grandchildren Madeleine and Ted of Shelburne, VT, and grandson Michael P. Wilkinson and his wife Patricia F. Wilkinson of Nags Head, NC. She is also survived by her youngest son Dr. Thomas F. Wilkinson and wife Linda S. Wilkinson of Barboursville, WV, granddaughter Dr. Molly W. Johnson, her husband Dr. David Johnson and great grandchildren Thomas and Leah of Huntsville, AL, grandson Gabe E. Joseph, his wife, Rabbi Rachel Joseph, and great-grandson Max of Portland, OR.
Virginia is also survived by her brother James A. Whittington and wife "Pete" of Sissonville, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers Basil, Harold, and Kenneth.
Mrs. Wilkinson was a life-long member of Thompson Chapel Methodist Church and Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women for more than 50 years and was a charter member of the Sissonville Community Women''s Club. She was a cook at Wallace Heights Elementary school for 25 years and was proud of her contributions to the church with her cooking skills.
The last five years of her life she lived at the Wyngate Senior Living Community in Barboursville, where she was loved by all and was cherished for her delightful sense of humor. The staff at Wyngate Senior Living Community in Barboursville is praised for their kind, loving, dedicated support of her during her declining years.
The family also wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the members of Aldersgate United Methodist Church who provided her their unwavering friendly, emotional, and spiritual support during her declining years.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 12 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Sissonville. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Sissonville. A gathering of family and friends will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
