Thelma Jewell "Purkey" Stowers, 91 of Charleston went home to be with the Lord on March 7. She was preceded in death by husband Billy Joe Stowers, grandson, Jackie Ray Stowers II and granddaughter Katie Shamblin. Sisters, Alama Lucas, Ruth Hensley, Helen Wiley, and June Shriver. Brothers, Alvie Purkey, French (Snooky Purkey), and Emmit (Bob) Purkey. She retired from the Charleston Eye and Ear Clinic. She was a member of the Sugar Creek Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by her children, Jimmy Stowers of Sissonville, Jerry, Joey, John and Jeff of Charleston, Jackie Ray Stowers of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and Jean Moore of Glendale, Ohio. She is survived by 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and brother John Purkey of Chapmanville. Services will be conducted Saturday March 12, 2022 11am at Long and Fisher Funeral Home , Sissonville, WV by her grandson Jarrod Stowers. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service.
