Sherry Lynn Parsons Carpenter, 58, passed away December 2, 2011 after a short battle with ovarian cancer.
She was born May 7, 1953 in Charleston. She was a very proud mother and grandmother, affectionately known as "Maw Maw." Her grandchildren were spoiled beyond reason by her generosity of both gifts and unending love and affection. She always put everyone else's needs before her own and would be there for you at the drop of a hat to shower you with love and support.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest C. Parsons; her mother, Effie Jones Parsons; and two sisters, Ruby B. Parsons and Earldene Parsons Hunt.
She will be greatly missed by her husband, Stephen C. Carpenter Sr.; her son, Stephen C. Carpenter Jr., and his wife, Kara, and their children, Emma, Hannah, Cole and Isabella ("Izzy"); and her daughter, Cheri M. Smith, her husband, SSgt. Jeremy D. Smith (USAF) and their children, Skyler, Jocie and Chase.
Sherry made the selfless choice to donate her body to the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Georgia so that she could help future physicians learn to heal others.
A memorial to celebrate the life of this amazing woman will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Long & Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville. As she enjoyed cooking and feeding others, there will be food and drinks for all to enjoy. Please feel free to bring a covered dish to the memorial to share. There will also be a memory wall at the memorial so everyone can share their memories of Sherry, so if you have any photos or keepsakes that you would like to share, please bring those as well.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Sherry's favorite charity, the Susan B. Komen Foundation, or to the American Cancer Society.
