Shawn Michael Ervin, 34, of Sissonville, departed this earth on January 26, 2013, at his parent's residence. Left to cherish his memory are his children, and the loves of his life, his son, Michael Shane Ervin of Huntington, and daughters, Ashley Jeannette Ervin and Emily Elizabeth Ervin and their mother, and longtime friend and love, Angie Comer of Elkview; his parents, Charlie and Celestine Ervin of Sissonville; brothers, Charles Jr. and wife, Vanessa, William and wife, Nicole, of Sissonville and Shane and wife, Shelley, of Red House; nephews, Lance, Dalton and Wyatt Ervin of Sissonville and Austin Ervin; niece, Aria Trador of Red House; nephews, Jameson and Trey Payne; and great-nephew, Charlie Michael Payne of Clendenin. He has aunts, uncles and cousins in all areas of the state as well as in Maryland, Ohio, Canada, the United Kingdom and Belgium.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ruth and Pete Ervin of Quinwood and Arlie and Nelly O'Dell of Leivasy. In addition, he was preceded in death by his nephews, William Lee Ervin Jr. and Charles Neil Ervin III, both of Sissonville. He also had two cousins who died unexpectedly, Michael and Roger Boggs, as well as Nathan "Nate" Helms and a niece, Talitha Belcher.
Shawn enjoyed playing sports as a young man as well as hunting, fishing and camping with family. He had been a member of Laborers Local 1353, Charleston, since 1997.
Shawn will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by those who love him as the outgoing, good-hearted person who helped in any way when he could. He, like all of us, made mistakes, but wrote to me a short while before his death that he was turning his life over to God because he could not continue the life he was leading. We pray that God heard his cry and took him into his loving arms.
Service will be at Long and Fisher Funeral Home on Thursday, January 31, at 2 p.m., with burial immediately following the service. Family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service.
