Ruby L Carney passed away on August 25, 2026 at the Brookdale Charleston Gardens Assisted Living Facility. She was born in Jackson County, WV on January 12, 1930 to Guy and Bertha Burdette. She grew up in the small neighborhood of Marshal, WV and graduated from Ripley High School in 1948. She married William, Bill, Carney in 1951. They built a wonderful and fulfilling life together and were married for 60 years until his death. One of their favorite adventures was going to the beach at least once per year. She always loved the beach, even though most of the time was spent sun bathing around the pool. In later years, she shared many memories about these trips with her family and friends.

Ruby enjoyed working outside of the home. She was employed by a few small businesses in the Sissonville area, worked at the Diamond Department Store until they closed and then worked as a school cook for Kanawha County Schools until her retirement in 2000.

She attended Goldtown Community Church where she was beloved by all. She enjoyed worshiping with her nieces, Joan Bean and Phyllis Koontz, and with many close friends. She was blessed in being able to drive herself to church until 2025. She always looked forward to eating out on Sundays with family and friends. Her favorite restaurant was Top Spot in Sissonville, but she was not particular as long as she was eating and with people she loved.

Ruby also thoroughly enjoyed socializing with friends at Aldersgate Methodist Church during the week. She made life-long and dear friends in the exercise classes and senior citizen lunches. She enjoyed these times to the extent that they dictated her schedule of events, even medical appointments. She also made certain that she had a weekly hair appointment. This just couldn’t be missed. Another joy in her life were her pet dogs throughout the years, Fawn, Nikki and Coco.

She was a woman of very strong opinion; always saying what she thought. As someone once said, “she is not extra warm and fuzzy, but she would do anything for you.”

The most important event in her life was her accepting Jesus as her Saviour. Although this occurred later in her life, she lived many years serving and worshiping Jesus. This affords comfort to family and friends.

Memories of Ruby will be cherished by her son, Richard (Rick), his wife, Vicky, whom she often called her daughter, Grandsons whom she loved deeply and she and Pawpaw Bill helped in busing them to events during their youth: BJ and wife, Jennifer; Lance and wife, Anitra. She was very blessed with 10 loving great grandchildren: Noah (Bailey), Danielle, Rose, Isaac, Caleb, Aidan, Adley, Benny, Josiah, Milli, and Grace; 1 great great granddaughter, Ocie Mae. She is also survived by her brother, John Burdette; many nephews and nieces, (being very close to Joan Beane, Brenda Fredericks, and Dale and Jane Carney); great nephews and nieces, and many friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Carroll Burdette, his wife, Virginia, her sister, Maxine Dunlap, and many other family members.

Family and friends are invited to gather at 12:00pm on Saturday August 29th, 2026, at Long & Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville, WV. A visitation will be held an hour prior to the service The family wishes to extend a heart-felt "thank you" to the caring and diligent staff at Brookdale, especially Ruby's favorite employee, Kayla. We also thank and praise Hospice and its staff who helped Ruby and the family through this difficult time.
