Obituary

If you knew Richard, you know he loved to laugh, enjoyed scouring for antiques and restoring classic cars. On Saturday mornings, you would find him driving to yards sales or the flea market searching for vintage heirlooms. In Richard’s free time, he would likely be found in his garage tinkering with antique vehicles or relaxing in the shade with a cold can of You-hoo chocolate flavored beverage and chatting away with friends and family. He was retired from West Virginia Paving Company, graduated from Sissonville High School and attended Fishers Chapel Church in Sissonville.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 69 years, Barbara L. Jones, his son Dave (Anne) Jones, daughters Deanna (Robbie) Edens, Kimberly Mann, seven grandchildren, Anthony Jones, Alanna Ballensky, Andrea Noack, Amber Hinken, Geoffrey Shuler, Parker Shuler, Carissa Shuler, and ten great-grandchildren. His sister, Ruth Cunningham, brothers, Ray Jones, and Ronnie (Helen) Jones, and nieces and nephews will also miss him.

Richard is proceeded into death and welcomed into Heaven by his father and mother, Herbert and Mary Ellen Jones, his grand-daughter, McKenna Edens, and special brothers-in-law, sisters-in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 2 pm at Long and Fisher Funeral home in Sissonville, on Wednesday, September 23, 2026 with visitation from 12 to 2 pm prior to the service. Rev. Kenneth Coon will be officiating. Committal service will be held immediately following the funeral service at Sissonville Memorial Gardens.

The family would also like to thank Stanley and Kim Slater for the assistance they have provided to Richard and Barbara over the years.

Richard leaves behind a life marked by devotion, kindness, and love. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the many people whose lives were made richer simply by knowing him.
