Obituary

Rebecca Anne Miller Mays, 81, of Sissonville WV went to be with the Lord on August 9, 2023 in Ravenswood Care Center.

Rebecca (known to family and friends as Becky) was born on November 12th, 1941 to the late Orville Q Miller and Hilda Robinson Miller Gilmore.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Earl "Wayne" Mays Sr.

Becky was a God fearing Christian having attended church with her grandmother Stacie Miller for many years.  Becky often commented that she didn't know where she'd be if not for her church background. She was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother who will be greatly missed by family and all who knew her.

She graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School where she met the love of her life, Wayne.  They were married on September 6, 1958 and moved to Sissonville where they raised their boys.

As a member of Calgary Nazarene Church, Becky was a board member, Sunday school teacher, and organizer of many church functions over the years including: a Ladies Retreat at Camp Virgil Tate; Mother's Day, Father's Day; Children's Day; Grandparents Day; Fill a Pew Day; and the yearly church picnic.  She was voted Teacher of the Year of all the Southern Districts.

In May 2011, Becky began attending the Lighthouse Worship Center and served the Lord there as the Ladies Ministry Leader. She also oversaw the Kitchen and a card writing ministry.  In addition, she was a prayer warrior.  She would spend hours praying for anyone who needed God's help.  Becky's faith was very strong and she knew that He would answer.  She was well known for her love of God and her love of family!

Left to cherish her memory are sons; Earl "Wayne" Mays Jr. (Trudy) of Cross Lanes WV, David Mays of Sissonville WV, John Mays of Lexington KY, and Steven Mays (Carly)of Ripley WV; siblings Larry "Bob" Miller (Barbara) of Huntington WV, Debra "Debbie" Payne (Jeff) of Pensacola FL, Darlene Seaman (Allan) of Pensacola FL, and Virginia "Ginger" Cupp of Pensacola FL; grandchildren Jennifer "Jenny" Mays Miller (Cody) of Hurricane WV, Brooke Mays of Honolulu HI, Steven Mays Jr. of Colorado Springs CO; great grandchildren Maverick Miller and Beckett Miller; and numerous extended family members.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, August 14th, 2023 at the Lighthouse Worship Center in Sissonville with Pastor Richard Young officiating.  Interment will immediately follow at Floral Hills Garden of Memories. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 11:00 AM Monday at the church.  Arrangements entrusted to Long & Fisher Funeral Home.
