Obituary

Polly Jean Snuffer, 62, of Charleston, passed away March 25, 2019 in hospice care at Thomas Memorial Hospital, in the company of her family and loved ones, after a brief but valiant battle to overcome pneumonia.
Polly struggled for most of her life with severe health problems, including cerebral palsy, that limited her mobility but not her enjoyment of life. She was tough and strong; in recent years she successfully made it through surgery and chemotherapy for ovarian cancer, as well as spinal surgery to correct a life-threatening condition. For the last 14 years Polly lived with her sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Charles Perdue.

Polly loved her sisters, her brothers, and her cousins, as well as their children and grandchildren; she loved gospel music and Hallmark movies (especially the Christmas movies). Even confined to a wheelchair, she liked to go bowling with her classmates at Prestera Center and to movies with her friend Doris Carson, who treated Polly as if she were a member of her own family. Polly enjoyed socializing in person and chatting on the phone with friends.  She had an amazing ability to recall dates, and could always be counted on to call family members on their birthday and sing "Happy Birthday" to them.

Born in Charleston on January 11, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Rose Snuffer. She was preceded in death by her brothers: Mark Snuffer, John Snuffer and Harold Snuffer. Surviving are her brothers Tom (Terry) Snuffer and Michael (Sherri) Snuffer, and her sisters, Elizabeth Doran and Peggy (Charles) Perdue.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Prestera Center on Michael Avenue, to the staff at Solutions PBS, and to her home caregivers, for befriending and taking such good care of Polly.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Mar. 28, from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon at Long and Fisher Funeral Home, 6837 Sissonville Drive, Sissonville. A brief chapel service will follow at 12:00, after which burial will immediately take place in Floral Hills Garden of Memories Cemetery.
