Penny Garten Monk, 64, of Sissonville went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, October 28 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Penny was born May 15, 1944 on Campbell''s Creek to the late Thomas and Thelma Garten. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. Penny was a 1962 graduate of DuPont High School, and a retired teller with 25 years service at BB&T. She was also a member and Sunday School Teacher at Calvary Church of the Nazarene.
She is survived by: husband of 45 years, Danny at home; sons, Danny Monk and his wife Anita of Gahanna, OH, and Steve at home and his fianc Traci Bounds of Sissonville; daughter, Vickie Thomas and her husband Rick of Sissonville; grandchildren, Emily, Kara, Mariah, and Tyler Monk of Gahanna, OH, and Katlyn Thomas of Sissonville; brothers, Alton Garten and his wife Leann of Charleston, and Thomas Garten and his wife Brenda of Rand; sister, Dreama Smith and her husband Dick of Campbell''s Creek.
Funeral Service will be 11am Saturday, November 1 at Long and Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville with Pastor Edison Hager officiating. Entombment will follow in Floral Hills Garden of Memories Mausoleum Chapel, Sissonville.
A gathering of friends and family will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
The family is grateful for the friends, family, nurses, doctors, and staff that cared for Penny so compassionately throughout her battle.
