Arlo Paul Brooks Sr., 92, of Sissonville died December 1, 2007 in Cedar Grove Person Care Home after a long battle with Alzheimer''s.
Paul was born in Winding Gulf, WV on December 1, 1915. He was a graduate of Wirt County High School and Glenville State Teachers College. He taught school for six years and moved to Kanawha County at the start of WWII to work at E.I. DuPont, and served two years as Postmaster at the Sissonville Post Office. He then transferred to the Charleston Post Office, where he retired after 30 years of service. Paul was a charter member of the Sissonville Lions Club, and a charter member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
Paul was preceded in death by: Parents, Rev. Thomas E. Brooks and Bertha Wright Brooks; Brothers, Edward, Herbert, Samuel, and Reynolds; Sisters, Katherine Brooks Mills, and Wauline Brooks Woodford.
Survived by: Wife of 67 years, Mary Kathleen Alkire Brooks at home; Children and their spouses, Dr. Arlo Paul Brooks Jr. and wife Nancy of Parkersburg, William David Brooks and wife Kathryn of Swansboro, N.C., and Mary Elisabeth Whitley and husband Mark of Sissonville; Brother, Dwight Ward Brooks and wife Wanema of Rockledge, FL; eight grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren; and two family members who were special to Paul in his early years, sister-in-law Rosalee Alkire Ashley of Marmet, and Niece Wilma Jean Woodford Hanback of Fredericksburg, VA.
The Funeral Service will be held at 2pm Wednesday, December 5 at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Sissonville. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Sissonville. Friends may visit starting at 12:30pm Wednesday at the Church.
