Oscar L. Davis, 88, of Charleston entered his eternal home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, December 30 in Jackson General Hospital.
Mr. Davis was born at Eccles, WV February 9, 1920. He was the son of the late Oscar R. and Carrie Davis. Having spent his childhood at Eccles, Sun, Scarbro, and Mt. Tabor, and graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, he married Glenna Stroud Davis in 1939.
From September 1944 to February 1946 Oscar served as a combat infantryman in the U.S. Army in the Philippines in WWII. After the war he worked as a cable splicer with C&P Telephone Company, and then was area director for the Communication Workers of America until his retirement in 1980.
Oscar''s passion was to serve the Lord, and see others come to Jesus Christ. He was a faithful, and active member of his local church, and had also been a member of the Gideons International. He had done volunteer work for the Camp of the Hills Munistry of Procious. Mr. and Mrs. Davis have faithfully, and generously supported Christian missionaries for many years.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two infant sisters, a brother, Ennis Lowell Davis, and a great grandson, Michael Andrew Davis.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Glenna Stroud Davis; three children, Sara Lilly and her husband, Glen, of Charleston, Andrew Davis and his wife, Anna Mae Snuffer Davis, of Beckley, and Philip Davis and his wife, Joyce Wilson Davis, of Cottageville; eight grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lois Davis of Columbus, Ohio, and brother-in-law, C.E. "Sonny" Stroud Jr., of Rainelle.
The Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 3 at Maranatha Baptist Church, Sissonville, with Pastors Bill and Kevin Bartlett officiating, and Pastor Andrew L. Davis assisting. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Beckley.
A gathering of friends and family will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Church.
