Obituary

Opal Mae Young, 92, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. She was born on September 22, 1933, to the late Stachie Bostic Legg and Henry Legg.

Opal was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Carl E. Young, who passed away in March 2007. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, James Legg and Herman Legg; her sister, Pearl Burdette; her granddaughter, Bobbi Jo Combs; her grandson, Joshua Burdette; her daughter-in-law, Patricia Larch Young; and her son-in-law, Ronnie Combs.

She is survived by her brother, Robert Legg; her brothers-in-law, Estil Young and Denny Young; and her sister-in-law, Jo Ann Young.

Opal's greatest joy in life was her family. She leaves behind her children: Kenneth (Pam) Young, Michael Young, Carolyn "Kay" Combs, Greg (Kelly) Young, Haskel Young, Patrick (Gloria) Young, and MaryJo (Kevin) Woodford. She was a proud grandmother to Mikie Young, Chris Young, Craig Young, Jason Young, Jeremy Combs, Beth Combs, Brianna Chiello, Hannah Nicholas, Chassidy Ray, Monica Young, and Kenny Burdette, as well as 20 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

A devoted mother and grandmother, Opal dedicated her life to caring for her family. Over the years, she lovingly babysat her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, teaching them strong values and surrounding them with unwavering love.

Opal was known far and wide as an incredible cook. Her home was always open, and there was always a place at her table for anyone who needed a meal or a place to stay. She generously shared vegetables from her garden with neighbors and friends, giving freely from the abundance she grew. She never had an unkind word for anyone and was a shining example of kindness and hospitality.

A born-again Christian, Opal faithfully attended Legg Fork Community Church. Her faith guided her life and was evident in the compassion and grace she extended to others.

Opal and Carl enjoyed traveling together throughout 48 states, making memories along the way.

The family would like to express their heart felt gratitude to Hospice for their exceptional care and offer special thanks to Scott, Beth, and Tamara for their kindness and support during Opal's final days.

Opal Mae Young's legacy of love, faith, generosity, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
