Opal Ann Edens, 83, of Tuppers Creek, Charleston, WV was born August 3, 1928 and departed this life June 9, 2012.
She was preceded in death by her fianc, James W. "Bill" Street; her parents Lemuel Ernest Edens and Hester Ann Haynes Edens; brothers Robert Hoy Edens, Emmett H. Edens, Harold Otmer Edens, and William Aubrey Edens; sisters Gertrude Ellen Edens and Mary Helen Edens; nephew Milton Howard Edens and Niece Arlene Serles.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Tressie Edens of Charleston, WV; nephews Leon Edens and wife Anita of Kenna, WV, Freddie Edens and wife Rita of Charleston, WV, Harold Edens and wife Helen of Ripley, WV, James Edens and wife Shirley of Charleston, WV, Gregory Edens and wife Terri of Lavalette, WV, Jeffery Edens and wife Dora of Charleston, WV; nieces Phyllis Schleigh and husband Gary of Hagerstown, MD, Barbara Edens of Charleston, WV, Elberta Higdon and husband Ray of Scottsville, VA, Patsy Serles of Charleston, WV, Linda Edens of Mullens, WV, Louise Tolliver and husband Don of Scottsville, VA, Brenda Edens of South Charleston, WV, Sharon Meadows of Poca, WV; and several other great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews.
Aunt Opal had been employed by the Kanawha county Board of Education and retired from Superior Laundry with 29 years of service.
She was a hard worker, a good cook, gardener, and farmer. She loved her flowers and cats. In past years she enjoyed singing the high part with her sisters in a ladies trio. She was never at a loss for words and never met a stranger. She always enjoyed listening to the radio, especially gospel broadcasts.
The family wishes to express special thanks to niece Barbara Edens for all her loving care of Aunt Opal during these past sever years.
Funeral services for Opal Ann Edens will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Long & Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville with Pastor Mike Long and Pastor Fairley McCormick officiating. Burial will follow in Lemuel Edens Family Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6-8 pm Tuesday June 12 at the funeral home.
