Onie Marie Dean Shinn, 88, of Pocatalico, passed away August 10, 2012. She was born April 18, 1924 in Charleston to the late Nevil Otis & Sadie Higginbotham Dean. Onie was a member of the former Bias Chapel Methodist Church, past President of the Woman''s Society of Christian Service, a charter member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, and member of the Sissonville Community Woman''s Club and South Charleston Chapter 131 Order of the Eastern Star. She was Past Mother Advisor of Sissonville Assembly No. 44 Order of the Rainbow for Girls and former member and Past President of American Society of Women Accountants Charleston Chapter No. 48. Onie graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School and attended West Virginia State College. She worked for F. W. Woolworth, US Naval Ordnance in South Charleston, Union Carbide, and Estill & Greenlee Realty. She is survived by her loving husband of sixty-seven years, James Doy Shinn; children, James D. Shinn, II of South Royalton, VT; Karen Shinn Wales of Huntsville, AL; Richard D. Shinn of Midlothian, VA; Cheryl S. Rollins of Charleston, WV; grandchildren, Jennifer Shinn Pettyjohn of Frankfort, KY; Jessica Shinn Thomas of Clinton, NY; Andrea Wales of New York, NY; Erica Wales of Huntsville, AL; Emily Robinson of Fairfax, VA; James R. Shinn of Midlothian, VA; and sister, Ruby Martin of Front Royal VA. She was preceded in death by her brother, Carl Dean; and sister, Emogene Harrison. Services will be 11a.m., Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Long & Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville, with the Rev. David Peters and Rev. Teresa Deane officiating. Burial will follow at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Friends may call Tuesday, August 14, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
