Norma Joan "Jody" Thaxton of Sissonville passed away November 15, 2014 after a short illness. Jody was born August 19, 1936 to the late Flay and Nellie Miller of Sissonville, West Virginia. She was a graduate of Sissonville High School. After her graduation she moved to Detroit, Michigan where she worked with a furrier, "Furs by Robert," and she spent several happy years there. After her marriage, she moved to Kansas where her husband was stationed in the military. When they returned home to West Virginia, she successfully operated N Joan Thaxton Court reporters until her retirement.
She married the love of her life, Roy Thaxton, on January 10, 1958, and they enjoyed 55 years together until Roy''s passing in 2013. She and Roy travelled extensively after retirement including trips to London, Paris, Moscow and several South American cities. In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by two sisters Jane Gibson and Marie Herrington.
Left to mourn her passing are her two sons of whom she was so proud, Dr. Stephen Thaxton and his partner Sabrina Segarra of Sissonville, and Dr. Jeffrey Thaxton and his wife Rebecca Thaxton of Charleston. Two grandchildren were the joy of her lifeMacKenzie and Maverik Thaxton. She is also survived by her brother J. Henry Miller and his wife Linda Miller of Sissonville and her loving sister and friend Mary Stafford and her husband Wes Stafford of Ripley, and by sisters- in-law Wanda Holmes (late husband James) and Neda Fizer (husband Paul) and Sharon Pinkerton (husband Mickey) all of Sissonville, and by several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
The family will receive visitors from 5 pm to 7 pm on Monday, November 17, 2014 at Long & Fisher Funeral Home in Sissonville. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 11am with entombment to follow at Floral Hills mausoleum.
