MILDRED MARY LILLY BONHAM, 92, of Charleston, went to be with her beloved husband of 62 years, Collett Bonham, on Monday, January 8, at Hubbard Hospice House due to complications stemming from Alzheimer''s.
She was born on May 8, 1925, to Basil Lilly and Mary Sue Green Lilly in Princeton, but grew up in Flatwoods. She was preceded in death by one son, Clarence Bonham, and a grandson, Larry Bonham, as well as by a host of family and friends. She is survived by her children, William Darrell Bonham of Charleston, Paul Richard Bonham (Sue) of Sissonville, and Mary Louise Bonham of Sissonville; Grandchildren, Danielle Bonham Bellew, Heather Haynes, DeAnna Bonham, and Courtney Bonds (Robert); great-grandchildren, Jaxson and Gage Bellew, Alexee Haynes, Jakob Comber and Jadah Parsons, and Shayla and Dalton Bonds; Step-Grandchildren, Tina Smith (Ken) of Hurricane, Stephen Hager (Elena) of Charlotte, NC, Jesse Hager (Kara) of Scott Depot; and step-great grandchildren, Christopher and Hannah Smith, Carson and Hudson Hager, and Delia Hager; and a host of very special nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank caretakers Jenna Phillips and Sue Means and Dr Jonathan Lilly of Dunbar Medical for their wonderful care and loving hearts.
Mildred was proud that she worked as an operator for Bell Telephone Company and for Bonham''s Dairy as a bookkeeper, and that she was the first lady juror to serve in the Charleston court system. She loved attending the renowned Lilly Family Reunion in Flatwoods every year when her health permitted. She loved playing BINGO in Dunbar for over 20 years, sewing, crocheting, ceramics, cross word puzzles, and playing card games at which she loved to cheat - she was always changing the rules!
Visitation will begin at 11 AM on Friday, January 12, at Long & Fisher Funeral Home, and the Memorial Service at 11:30 AM, with Pastor Raymond Jordan officiating. Family and friends will gather for food and sharing of memories at Mildred''s home immediately following services. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospice Care, Mildred Bonham Memorial Fund, 1606 Kanawha Boulevard West, Charleston, WV 25387.
