Mercedes Sampson Thaxton, 86, passed away November 24, 2008 at Heartland of Charleston after a long illness, She was born December 7, 1921 she was the daughter of James W. Walker and Virginia Haynes. She was preceded in death by her children: Harry, Jr., Oscar, Charles, Henry and Tony Sampson. She is survived by daughters: Lillian Virginia Harrison and her husband Luther of Sissonville. Phyllis Jean McGrew and husband Buddy of Ormand Beach, Florida Patricia Ann Boisvert and husband Dave of Port Orange, Florida Surviving Sibling: Noble Walker 9 Grand Children: Clement Harrison and wife Rita Kelley Gilmore and husband Jim Anita Tanges and husband Dave Melissa Thaxton Elizabeth Thaxton and husband Mark Lenore Wolfe Henry Sampson, Jr. Chad Sampson Jason Sampson 11 Great Grandchildren: Jonathan Harrison Jessica Harrison Chelseah Gilmore James Gilmore, II Ashley Holland Allison Tangess Sandie Estep Megan Waddell Hunter Sampson Ridge Sampson 2 Great Great Grandchildren: Katlie Hawks and James T. Holland IV Mercedes enjoyed quilting, going to church, visiting with family and friends. She was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church, Wolf Pen Drive, Charleston. The family would like to give a special Thanks to her caregivers at Heartland of Charleston. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Saturday at the Long and Fisher Funeral Home with the Pastor Randy Camp officiating. Burial will follow in the Sampson Family Cemetery, Wolf Pen.
