Obituary

Mark D. Snuffer, 51, of Charleston, passed away Feb. 10, 2014, at home. Until his health failed, he enjoyed life and embraced it to its fullest. He believed that everyone he met deserved a hug.

Mark loved his family, children, dogs, the movies of John Wayne and the music of Elvis Presley. He took great joy in singing (anywhere at any time), and was especially fond of serenading people with his own version of "Amazing Grace." Mark loved to dance, and on one memorable occasion in 1977 was invited to dance for President Jimmy Carter in the White House with the Shawkey Center dance troupe. Mark was also an enthusiastic participant in several Special Olympics.

Born in Charleston on Dec. 9, 1962, he was the son of the late Paul and Rose Snuffer. He was also preceded in death by his brother, John Snuffer.

Surviving are his brothers, Harold (Debi) Snuffer, Tom (Terry) Snuffer and Michael (Sherri) Snuffer, and his sisters, Elizabeth (Joseph) Doran, Peggy (Charles) Perdue and Polly Snuffer.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Prestera Center on Michael Avenue, and to his home caregivers, for befriending and taking such good care of Mark.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Long and Fisher Funeral Home, 6837 Sissonville Drive, Sissonville. A brief chapel service will follow, after which burial will be in Floral Hills Garden of Memories Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Prestera Foundation, P.O. Box 2672, Huntington, WV 25276.
