Marjorie "Margie" Lanham, 80, of Sissonville, WV went home to be with the Lord, November 25, 2010 at Cedar Ridge Nursing Home surrounded by her family.
Margie was preceded in death by her first husband and father of all of her children, Hamon Rhodes, and her second husband, Douglas Lanham, and all of her brothers and sisters.
Remaining are her four children: Clayton Rhodes and wife, Shirley, of Ripley; Norma Teel of Charleston; Steve Rhodes and wife, Debbie, of Sissonville; and Mike Rhodes and wife, Wilma, of Sissonville. Her ten grandchildren: JuaNita Drennen of Ripley; Robert Rhodes of Sanford, FL; Clinton Edens of Charleston, Kenneth Edens of Charleston; Stephanie Haynes of Sissonville; Jessica Davis-Schoettker of Sissonville; Brandy Davis of Marion, IL; Kenny Davis of Charleston; Stevie Rhodes of Charleston; and Tiffany Hill of Louis, KY. Her eight great-grandchildren: Madi Cavender of Charleston; Kayla Rhodes of Ripley; Breandra Edens of Charleston; Zachary Edens of Charleston; BJ Haynes of Sissonville; Blaine Haynes of Sissonville; Josie Schoettker of Sissonville; Peyton Hudnall of Marion, IL; and one great grand baby due in December by Tiffany Hill.
Margie was born on December 4, 1929 to Henry Asbury Parsons and Mary Etta (Ashby) Parsons in Jackson County, WV. Margie's childhood and many of her adult years were spent in the countryside of Jackson County. Margie and her husband, Doug, managed the Rippling Waters Campground on Middefork Road in the early 70's before returning to their home and farm near that area. After Doug's passing, Margie worked as a waitress and home caregiver before retiring. Margie was a joyful and faithful Christian. She spent many years using her musical talent to serve the Lord by singing with The Family Gospel Singers, comprised of relatives and friends, including her daughter-in-law Shirley, wife of Clayton. The Family Gospel Singers traveled throughout West Virginia and performed on Public Radio.
Margie was a loving mother, grandmother and a friend to all. Recently, Margie expressed her desire to go home and be with the Lord. Her prayers were answered. Although her homecoming with the Lord is to be celebrated, she will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren and other family and friends.
The funeral service will be 11am Monday, November 29 at Long and Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Garden of Memories. Visitation will one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
