A life's mission is fulfilled. Margaret Ann "Monie" Burdette, 93, of Sissonville, completed her life's work on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Cedar Ridge Center. Margaret was born on Christmas Day, 1919, in Hinton, to the late Henry and Jennie Sweeney. In addition to her parents, she joins in heaven her husband, Lawrence W. "Chisel" Burdette; five sisters; and two brothers.
To call Margaret simply a homemaker would be an understatement. She was a Proverbs 31 woman of noble character who loved her family and served them well. The more people who were around her, the more she loved life.
Margaret was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Charleston, where she was passionate about the mission work of American Baptist Women's Ministries, which she served in several leadership positions. Over the course of her life, she also taught Sunday school to every age, from birth to adult.
In addition, she served on the Sissonville Public Service District Board, and was active in local politics.
She is survived by her three children, daughter, Barbara Welch and her husband, John, of Sissonville; sons L.W. Burdette Jr. of Talcott and James R. "Jimmy" Burdette of Sissonville; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to graciously thank all of the employees of Cedar Ridge Center for the love and care provided to our mother, grandmother and friend.
A celebration of Margaret's life will take place Saturday, June 16, at 1 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronald Stoner officiating.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Long & Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville.
