Joyce Marlena Wines, 75, of Sissonville passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2009; after an unexpected illness. Joyce Marlena spent her years in Parkersburg raising her family, and returned home to the Sissonville area for her retirement.
She has left behind her husband, Noal Gene Wines, of 56 years; Son Noal Kem Wines and wife Penny Wines, of Mineral Wells, WV; Daughters: Joyce Theresa (Terri) Wines and Tamara Jane (Tami) Wines of Sissonville; Granddaughter Georgann Elizabeth Mazzoli, husband Michael Mazzoli, and great grandson Vincent Michael Mazzoli of Columbus Ohio; Grandson Todd Christopher Wines, and wife Jill Wines of Vienna, WV.
She is also survived by her brother, Roger Taylor and wife Joyce of Charleston; sisters: Oredo Cutlip of Teays Valley; Opal Wood , Fredericktown Ohio; Marie Nutter, Charleston; Blanche Jarrel and husband Curtis of Clearwater, Florida. She also had a special fondness for her niece Carolyn Lee Buzzard and nephew Roy Wolfe and wife Phyllis. Carolyn and Roy had the distinct honor of being her flower girl and ring barrier 56 years ago.
She was preceded in death by her father Elijah Losson Taylor; Mother Dartie Ethel Richards; and brother, Irvin Taylor.
Joyce Marlena spent her early years as a Cosmetologist, and her later years as a very gifted Artist. Joyce was asked to represent the State of West Virginia as a doll maker at the countries Bicentennial Celebration at Wolfe Trapp National Park in Alexandria, Virginia. Joyce was also a featured doll maker in the series of books "Mountain Trace", Volume 1, No.2. She was a regular exhibitor at the Bob Evans Craft Show, Ripley Arts and Craft''s, and Harpers Ferry. She was also a member of the Kanawha County Day Guild, and Moon & Stars Quilt Guild.
Her talents went on from doll maker, to crafts, to painting, and especially designing quilts. She passed her talents on to her children and grandchildren since there was always a project that needed completing, and many hours were spent at her side talking and learning from our mother and grandmother. Many individuals have pieces of her art in their homes, and many babies have been wrapped in her quilts and played with her toys.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her family is quite proud of her recognition and talent. Joyce Marlena will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Friday at the Long and Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Camp officiating.
Entombment will follow in the Floral Hills Mausoleum, Sissonville.
