John William
Thacker
Nov 16, 1952 — Oct 15, 2026
Sissonville
John W. Thacker, son of the late Charles Speed and Carolyn Sue Thacker, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2026 at his farm in Sissonville, WV.
He leaves behind a beloved wife, Sharon Thacker, a brother Ronald (Carol) of Wayne and a Sister Elizabeth of Erb of Masontown, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
John was a graduate of Sissonville High School, and later attended Nashville Auto Diesel where he honed the skills for an early career in the transportation industry. He traveled the country as a truck driver, spending the last several years working in OH before retiring back to the farm in spring of 2026.
While he spent many years traveling the country, his heart remained in the hills of West Virginia. His knack for collecting friends may have been second only to his generosity of spirit.
HILL COUNTRY POEMS by Ronald C "Web" Webster
THE DEAREST PLACE
I've been to the east, I've seen the sightshow buildings pierce the skyThe dazzling lights of the city streetsand the people rushing by.
I've traveled o'er the western plainbathed in the south's sunshinehave waded in the ocean's foamwalked through the northern pines.
I've seen the ships come sailing inwith loads of foreign wareWhere sailors live their life afloatthey said they liked it there.
Still in my travels far and wideand the places I did roamI've found no spot so dear to meas the little place called "home."
Per John's wishes he will be cremated and will have a service on his Farm on Saturday October 24th 2026 at 1:00pm.
