Jarrel Arnold Clendenin, 93, of Charleston, was welcomed into heaven on January 2, 2014.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bethel Bernice Clendenin, parents, Sant Clendenin and Ethel Clendenin, sister, Sylvia Watson, and grandson, Michael Keith Clendenin.
He is survived by his two sons, Dana Keith Clendenin of Sissonville and Steven Lakin Clendenin and his wife, Micki, of Ripley. He was also the grandfather of Jon Clendenin of Goldtown and granddaughters, JillAnn Balco of Morgantown, Sherry Lee Meadows of Ravenswood and Mary Anne Clendenin of Ripley and 5 great grandchildren; and also survived by his special cat, Tocat.
Jarrel was a member of Humphreys United Methodist Church in Sissonville.
He was a survivor of the German Death March in World War II and a proud member of the United States Army Air Corps, the 473rd Bombardment which was shot down over Hungary and he was a POW for 14 months when the war ended. He was Licensed Land Surveyor for over 50 years and an agent for Farmers Mutual Insurance Company and also sold mutual funds. He was a member of the Ripley High School class of 1939; a graduate from West Virginia State College; and also received training at West Virginia Institute of Technology.
Special thanks to Nova Casto, his sister, who lovingly cared for him for the last few years together with his son, Dana Keith Clendenin.
Services will be conducted at 12pm on Monday, January 6, 2014 at the Long and Fisher Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor George Webb officiating. Entombment will follow at Floral Hills Garden of Memories in Sissonville with military graveside rites being conducted.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held from 10am-12pm on Monday at the funeral home.
