James L. Summers, 92, of Maplewood, went to be with the Lord November 5, 2008.
He was retired from Union Carbide, South Charleston with 35 years service. He was a Marine Corps Veteran of WWII. He also served in the U.S. Army, and the Civilian Conservation Corps. He attended Clifftop Community Church, was a member of Fisher''s Chapel, Romance, and raised his children in Fairview United Methodist Church. He was a railroad buff, loved rocks, gardening, and farming. James was also a Gideon.
He was preceded in death by: parents, Bertie Ann and W.A. Summers; sisters, Maureen Hannah, and Mamie Flowers, and half-sister, Mabel Bonar; brothers, John, Jack, William, and Edgar Summers, and half-brother, Buster Drennen; grandson, Eric Almond, and great grandson, Sylvia Lee Wilson.
Survived by: loving wife of 66 years, Edith Anderson Summers; sisters, Vaughna Kitts of Scott Depot, Lucille Zirkle, and Gynith Walker both of Charleston; children and their spouses, Nancy S. Bright and Michael of Cross Lanes, James A. Summers and Patsy of Sissonville, Thomas W. Summers and Carolyn of Cross Lanes, Sarah S. Higgs and Mark of Mt. Zion, and Donna Almond and Eddie of Grandview; grandchildren, Robin Eskins, Lori Wilson, James R. Summers, Angela Stone, Thomas A. Summers, Amy Baggett, Elizabeth Vuoso, Franklin Trabucco, Rachel Kirkham, Charles Almond, and fourteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Service will be 11am Saturday, November 8 at Long and Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville with Dale Preast officiating. Burial will follow in Anderson Cemetery, Maplewood with military honors provided by the United States Marine Corps.
A gathering of friends and family will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
