James Matthew Shamblin, 89, of Sissonville passed onto our Heavenly Father on June 28, 2012, from complications of pneumonia and multi-organ failure. Born October 24, 1922, to the late Doy and Sara Shamblin, he was preceded in death by two wives, Elizabeth and Virginia. Also preceding him in death were sister, Lilly; brothers, Carl, Arnett, and Robert Lee; grandson, Jeremy; and great-grandchildren, Cody and Haylee. James served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, spending most of his enlistment time in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and Barber's Point, Hawaii. He worked many places doing many jobs throughout his life and was a man of many talents. To name only a few, he began farming as a child, drove coal trucks, was a glassworker and tool maker, with his last "paying" job being a carpenter with Shamblin Construction.
Left to mourn his passing, are his daughter and caregiver, Cookie (Danny) Woolcock; daughters, Charlotte Shamblin (fianc, Bobby), and Tammy (Rickey) Dixon; son, Gary; special granddaughter, Chelsey Dixon; granddaughters, Stacy; step-granddaughter, Molly; step-grandson, Joe; great-granddaughters, Shelby and Abby; great-grandsons, Elijah and Josiah; brothers, Owens (Dottie) of Sissonville and Doyle (Margaret) of Florida.
Dad made many friends throughout his life, never had a bad word for anyone, lived by the Bible and always lent a hand to those in need. Materialistic items meant nothing to him. Love for family, friends and his fellow man meant everything. He loved to play Solitaire, dance and sing, had an infectious laugh and had an unimaginable sense of humor. He was thankful for each and every thing and felt he had a good life. His greatest loves were hard work and spending time with family. We will terribly miss his stories, whether of trying times, or the silly, funny ones.
"Dad, you taught us well and loved each of us equally. It is now our job to carry on your legacy and tradition of hard work, honesty, and humor. We thank you for every wonderful minute we had with you, but they will never be enough. We love you."
Visitation is being recheduled for a later date at Long & Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville.
The funeral service is being rescheduled for a later date followed by a return to his home and garden prior to a graveside service with military rites at Floral Hills Cemetery
