James "Jimmy" Allen Slater, of Sissonville passed away on January 4, 2016 peacefully at home.
Jimmy was the son of the late Guy Richard Slater and Lois Frazier Slater. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, C.O. and Molly Bumgardner Slater and Frank and Sadie Kennedy Frazier; and his brother Richard "Rick" E. Slater.
Jimmy was a 1977 graduate of Sissonville High School. Jimmy and Tanya are the owners of Carolyn Sue''s Flowers & Gifts in Sissonville. Before opening the flower shop, Jimmy worked for various companies most notably NGK/NTK. Jim''s favorite, most important and rewarding job was being "Pa-Pa". Jimmy adored his grandchildren and in turn they adored him.
Jimmy loved to hunt and fish with his buddies. He also enjoyed gardening and had recently started a hobby of collecting trains.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife, Tanya. Jim and Tanya were married for 28 years. He is also survived by his son, Steven Ryan Slater and fiance, Janet Harper; daughter, Kara Beth Slater; and grandchildren, Julian Ryan Slater, Kaylee Beth Slater and Riley Grace Hammack; brother, Guy Daniel Slater of Sissonville, Sara Jane Sutton of Merrit Island, Florida and her husband, Ross, Sue Ellen Slater of Sissonville and companion, Chris Garnes. He is also survived by his only living Aunt, Cleo Abbott as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and family between the hours of 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday at Long & Fisher Funeral Home.
Services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 9, 2015 at Long & Fisher Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Camp officiating. Burial will directly follow the service at Slater Family Cemetery, Allen''s Fork.
