James Firpo Casdorph's Obituary
James Firpo Casdorph, 85, of Charleston passed away April 16, 2009 in Hubbard Hospice House of pancreatic cancer.
Jim lived his entire life enjoying the beauty of the hills which surround his home and family. He served in the Army during WWII and landed on Utah Beach on D-Day. He met his future wife and best friend while stationed at Indiantown Gap, PA. He married Ruthanna Heilman Deiter in 1946 and brought her to WV where they reared their five children. Jim retired from Allegheny Freight Lines after 35 years and was a member of Teamsters Local 175. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Jim stayed very busy around his home after retirement. His happiest times were when he was on his tractor or spending time with this wife, children, and grandchildren. Jim will be best remembered for his great sense of humor, his love for God, family, country, and for always being there to make everything better.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, John Hunt Ohley Casdorph, and Etta Josephine Lamoreaux Casdorph; brothers, Caleb Henry Casdorph, Charles Lamoreaux Casdorph, and John Ohley Casdorph, Jr.
Survived by wife, Ruthanna Casdorph; daughters, Deborah Casdorph, Beverly Neal (Tom), Nancy Baldwin (Gary), and Etta Smithson (Roger); son, James Casdorph (Lisa); sisters, Louise McLaughlin, Rayma Atkinson Schwarz; brother, Oscar Delano Casdorph; 12 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 3pm Sunday, April 19 at Long and Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville. Visitation with the family will begin at 1pm until service time at the funeral home.
A distribution of the ashes will be private for the family only.
The family of James Casdorph would like to express a warm, heartfelt thank you to HospiceCare, and the Hubbard Hospice House for the compassion and care they gave Jim in the last weeks of his life.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Drive, Charleston, WV 25311-1824.
