James Atlee Whittington, 95, of Sissonville, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, August 10, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 76 years, Helene "Pete" Whittington; son, Gary L. Whittington, Sr. and his wife Rebecca; a daughter, Lois L. Totten; grandchildren, Gary L. Whittington, Jr. and his wife Jenny, and James Eugene Totten; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of close friends.
James was the son the late Benjamin F. Whittington and Norma B. Whittington. He proudly served our country during WWII in the United States Army and was a retired supervisor from Union Carbide Institute. He was a member of the Dunbar Masonic Lodge #159 and the Beni Kedem Shrine for over 50 years, and was also a member of the Scottish Rite. James was a successful businessman and a devoted family man. He spent several years as an elected committeeman for the Union District, in which capacity he reached out and lent a helping hand to many. James was an avid outdoorsman and entertained many by telling tall tales. He was very proud to be an alumni from the "University of Hard Knocks".
In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Wilkinson; brothers, Basil Whittington, Harold Whittington, and Kenneth Whittington.
Funeral services will be held at 3pm at Long & Fisher Funeral Home on Sunday, August 14, 2016 with visitation one hour prior to service. Pastor Randy Camp will be officiating.
Entombment will immediately follow at Floral Hills Garden of Memories.
