H. Hershel "Tater" Sisson, 82, of Sissonville passed away February 13, 2008 at home after an extended illness.
He is the oldest son of the late Harry W. and Kathleen Newhouse Sisson, and was the next to the oldest survivor of James Sisson, the original settler of the town of Sissonville. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. Hershel was a Distribution Supervisor Retiree for Union Carbide Corporation, Institute, and was an original member of the Carbide HELP team. He was a member of the Charleston Elks Lodge 202, South Charleston Masonic Lodge 168, Scottish Rite of Charleston, and the Beni Kedem Shrine Temple where he was a member of the clown unit. He was a grand cross of colors member, and had also worked part time for Long and Fisher Funeral Home.
He was preceded in death by: Brother-in-law, Henry Fisher, and Sister-in-law, Roberta "Boots" Sisson, both of whom he considered as close as his own siblings.
Hershel is survived by the love of his life for 61 years, Josephine "Jo" Good Sisson at home; daughter, Elizabeth "Libby" Reed and her husband Eddie of Sissonville; grandson, William Reed and his wife Jennifer of Sissonville; great grandson, Brett E. Reed at home; brothers, Oral E. Sisson and his wife Lois of Kanawha City, and Stanley L. Sisson of St. Albans; sister, Nyldean E. Fisher of Ripley; special family member, Connie Gibson Cooke and her husband James, and their daughters, Jamie and Julie; his longtime best friend Ronnie Boggess and his wife Libby (we love you Ronnie); numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

A celebration of Hershel''s life will be 2pm Sunday, February 17 at Long and Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville with Rev. Terry Deane officiating. Entombment will follow at Floral Hills Garden of Memories Mausoleum, Sissonville with Masonic Graveside rites. A gathering of friends and family will be 6-9pm Saturday at the funeral home.
