Herndon M. "Slim" Bailey, 83, of Ripley went to be with the Lord January 10, 2010 in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
Slim was retired from Appalachian Power Company having worked as a foreman with 42 years service. He was a WWII Army veteran having received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, WWII Victory Ribbon, and the Army Occupational Medal. Slim enjoyed hunting, fishing, gospel music and singing in the quartet.
Slim was preceded in death by his parents, Lula and Benjamin Bailey; brothers, Hershel and Beachie Bailey; sisters, Irene, Bessie and several loving half sisters.
Left to cherish his memory are loving wife of 63 years, Jessie Bailey at home; daughters, Barbara Scruggs and Tammy Bailey both of Ripley; sister, Sadie Bonnett of Nitro; brother, Shelby Bailey and his wife, Belle, of Paden City; half-sisters, Toots of Oakwood, OH, and Ethel of Colorado; grandchildren, Russell Allen Scruggs and his wife, Connie Sue, and Angela Danielle Scruggs and her fianc, Bill Pauley; great-grandchildren, Nathaniel William Pauley, Matthew Alan Scruggs, Hayley Kathleen Scruggs, Julia Paige Scruggs and Noah Thomas Scruggs.
The Funeral Service will be 2pm Wednesday, January 13 at Long and Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville with Reverend Billie Casto officiating. Entombment will follow in Floral Hills Garden of Memories Mausoleum, Sissonville.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 6-8pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
