Helen Wilson Hamilton Burdette died Saturday January 27, 2007 at Cedar Ridge Nursing Home where she had been a resident since May of 1998.
Helen was born on May 26, 1914 on Frog''s Creek, WV the third of eight children of Cleveland Caliph "C.C." Hamilton and Della Mae Hamilton. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, Curtis Brown Wilkinson; Sisters, Anna Deal, Uda Asbury, Christina Bias, Ava "Bubbles" McClanahan; Brothers, Billy Richard, and Hillard Hamilton; Husband, Hoyt Burdette.
Helen worked in Charleston at the Elite Laundry and NuWay Cleaners. She retired from The Charleston National Bank. After retirement she married Mr. Hoyt Burdette and moved to Roane County. After his death she returned to the Kanawha Valley and lived in Dunbar until her admission to Cedar Ridge Nursing Home in 1998.
She attended church in Reedy, Roane County. She was a proud member of the Eastern Star. She was an avid gardener and grew the best flowers ever. She was also an accomplished seamstress and could whip together a mean apple pie. She also possessed a remarkable talent for finding four leaf clovers which she shared with family an friends.
She leaves behind one sister, Juanita "June" Older and a host of nieces and nephews who will miss her greatly.
A celebration service will be held on Tuesday, January 30 in the Mausoleum at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes at Noon. Rev. Dale Stonestreet will be officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Last Supper Garden at the cemetery.
