Garnett Edmund Pritt, 83, of Charleston, WV departed his life peacefully September 7, 2012, at home with his wife Tina and family by his side. He was a member of UMWA District 17, where he served as President of Local Union 1766. He also served as Chairman of his Mine, Health & Safety Committee where he took great pride ensuring the welfare of the people he worked with on a daily basis. He remained active in the coal miner''s political action committee COMPAC for many years. Garnett devoted his life to justice and equality for all and his values greatly influenced his family and many friends. An avid Democrat, Garnett supported the efforts of those who tried to make a difference. This included his daughter Charlotte who carries on his passion for change even today. Garnett is preceded in death by his parents George & Lessie. His sister Georgetta Lawrence. His brothers James, Lester, Doles and Raymond. His eldest son Eddie. Garnett is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Tina and their children- Charlotte Pritt of Charleston, Linda Pritt of Charleston, Roger (Vanessa) of Ripley, Dale (Dreama) of Poca, Jimmy (Lynette) of Sissonville, Daughter-in-law, Janie Pritt of Sissonville, his brother Noble Pritt of Sissonville, sister-in-law Nancy Casto of Dunbar, and Frankie Coffman of Sissonville. Grandchildren - John Hurst, Tracy (Bobby) Page, Mandy (Trent) Baldwin, Tyson and Connor Pritt, Rene'' (Chad) Jones, Justin (Audra) Pritt, Alan (Chelsey) Pritt, Wayne (Katie) Pritt, Cody, Summer, Autumn and Madison Pritt. Great Grandchildren - Taylor and Lucas Page, Keaton Baldwin, Austin Henrich, Landon and Layla Pritt, Mason, Sawyer and Kinley Pritt. In addition to his family, he had many friends whom he welcomed into his home as family, and these individuals helped to complete his circle of life. The family wishes to thank Hospice for their support and in lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice would be appreciated. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 11, at Long & Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville, with the Rev. David McCormick officiating. Burial will follow at Pritt Cemetery, Sissonville. Friends may call from noon until the time of the service at the funeral home. A celebration of Garnett''s Life will be held at the old Bonham Elementary School off of the Edens Fork Exit in Charleston immediately following the service
