IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Freda Idona
Mowrer
December 25, 1930 – February 10, 2019
Freda Idona "Midge" Mowrer (Bumgardner) 88 of Sissonville passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2019 after a sudden illness.
Midge was born on Christmas Day 1930 at her home in Romance, West Virginia. She grew up on the family's farm and attended school in a one-room school house and church at Fisher's Chapel.
She met and married the love of her life Frank Mowrer in 1952 and they were together 52 years before his passing in 2004. Midge was a wife and a homemaker, spending her whole life tending and caring for her family. She always wanted to make sure they were well fed and taken care of. When her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were born, they became her life and greatest joy.
Cooking and baking were her passion and she never had a recipe for anything! When she wasn't cooking or baking she was working on special quilts for her grandchildren's birthdays.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Mowrer, Jr.; parents, Howard and Flossie Bumgardner; brother, Charles "Webb" Bumgardner; sisters, Pauline Bumgardner, Mary Jones, Gladys Koontz and Catherine Boggess.
Left to cherish her memories are her brothers, Robert "Bob" Bumgardner and Raymond Bumgardner and his wife Mary Kay; sister Helen Lanham; her daughter, Barbara Smithers (Jay); her son Bruce Mowrer and his wife Tammy; grand children, Carrie Darby (Cody), Jill Straight (Scott), Seth Smithers (Krystal), Megan Mowrer and Jarrett Mowrer; great-grand children, Kenneth and Kayana Mowrer, Colten and Charli Darby, Dylan Straight, Rylan and Kaelyn Smithers. Life long friend and just as a son, Sanford Shaffer (Gloria) and her best friend Ann Taylor.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Long & Fisher Funeral Home, 6837 Sissonville Drive at noon with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Mike Harper will be officiating the service. Immediately following the service a private burial will be held at the Bumgardner family cemetery, Middle Fork Road, Kenna.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hubbard Hospice House, 1606 Kanawha Blvd, Charleston, WV 25387.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the nurses at CAMC - General Medical ICU Unit. A very special thank you to Judy who took exceptional care of our mother and family during this very difficult time.
