Obituary

Edwin G. Scherr, Jr., 96, passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 23, 2014. "Eddie", with a grateful heart, was often heard saying, "I''ve been blessed. God has been good to me. I''ve had a wonderful life."

Eddie was a founding member of Pleasant View Methodist Church on Fisher Ridge, Jackson County. His career at Carbide, working in Research and Development, lasted 38 years and he assisted with projects including the development of Sevin, Prestone, Sorbic Acid, soaps, and detergents.

As a life-long farmer, he was a Century Farm Award receiver and was elected District Supervisor for the Western Soil Conservation District. He was elected to the Community Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service and was recognized for his many years of service to the farmers of Jackson County. He helped found the Jackson County Jr. Fair.

He was a part owner of Rippling Waters Recreation Area and was instrumental in the building of the Ripley City Park Swimming Pool. As a member of the Jackson County School Board for 6 years, he fought hard for the construction of the Roane-Jackson Technical Center. He went door to door to get funding and right of way permission for water for 250 families in southern Jackson Co. For thirty years he worked with others to plan and construct the Millcreek Watershed dams. He, also, helped implement the creation of Woodrums Lake. He was a member of the Masons, Shriners, and Knights Templar.

He was born in Washington, D.C. on January 22, 1918 to Edwin Garfield Scherr and Grova A. (Koontz). He married Evelyn L. (Baker) in 1940 and had three children-Evelyn (Bobbie) Tully, Jim A. Scherr (Karen), and Carolyn A. Griffith (Charles). He is survived by his grandchildren- Chad Scherr (Chrissie), Susan Griffith Boyles (Travis), and Chet R. Griffith (Jamee). His surviving great-grand children include-Sierra, Carah, Todd, Jr., and Drew Scherr; Jimmy Stevens; and Dylan, Emma, Maggie, and Ella Griffith. He is pre-deceased by his wife- Evelyn, daughter-Bobbie, grandson-Todd A. Scherr, and daughter-in-law-Jo Ann Slaven Scherr (Jim).

Special thanks to the exemplary care givers, Bev Bird , Emma Criner, and Hospice.
