IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Doris Jean
Wilson
November 15, 1930 – April 23, 2024
Doris Jean Wilson, 93, of Sissonville, WV, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024. She was born on November 15, 1930, to the late Elmer and Beulah Haymond.
Doris was a dedicated housewife and mother, a member of Humphreys United Methodist Church, choir member, soloist, and Sunday school teacher. Doris was a PTA and homeroom mother volunteer, and a cub scout leader. She loved to crochet, quilt, and in later years, began painting using the Bob Ross technique. Like her mother, she had a great love of playing the card game Skip-bo, and she spent many hours playing with anyone who would play.
The time she spent with her grandchildren was made extra special by teaching them cooking and sewing skills, Artex paint and other craft projects, playing board games and pretending to make watercolor art to sell in a gallery.
Her love also extended to non-family members. Her in-laws were as special to her as her own siblings. She was "mother" to many, and her peaceful presence and smiles were a joy to all.
Doris was a very determined lady who could accomplish anything she set her mind to. After her stroke 2 years ago, she was determined to walk again. She amazed her therapists with her willingness to put in extra hard work. She couldn't be kept down for very long, and they celebrated her successes with her.
In addition to her parents, Doris is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Freddie (Jim) Wilson, infant daughter Sandra Kay Wilson, brothers James Haymond and Lynn Haymond, sisters Esta LaBeck, Vesta Williamson and infant Helen Louis Haymond.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children Kenneth (Brenda) Wilson, Charles (June) Wilson, and Rebecca (Mike) Humphreys; grandchildren, Jaime (Jacob) Moss, Brian (Shannon) Wilson, Sarah (Matt) Ruppenthal, Amanda (Jeremy) Anderson, Eric Wilson, Bradley Wilson, Sara (Chris) Bergold, and Amy (Brian) Lilly; great-grandchildren Bryce Kupfner, Megan Kupfner, Emily Kupfner, Hannah Feaster, Olivia (Garret) Simmons, Emma Hornbeck, Devin Ruppenthal, Lucas Ruppenthal, Josie Garrido, Isabella Garrido, Tori Garrido, Daniel Anderson, Hayden Anderson, Aylianna McIntyre, Oryn Bergold, Bradley Lilly, Muriel Lilly, Harley Rose Gladson and Violet Bergold; great-great-grandchildren- Mya Feaster, Harper Simmons, Harper Gladson, and Hallie Gladson.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2024, at Long & Fisher Funeral Home.
