David E. Atkinson, 65, of Sissonville passed away suddenly March 8, 2011 in CAMC Memorial Hospital.
David was a 1963 graduate of Sissonville High School and a U.S. Army Veteran, having served his country in Vietnam. He currently worked for Steptoe and Johnson Law Firm as a messenger. He attended North Hills Baptist Church, was a member of American Legion Post #20, and was an avid Mountaineer fan.
Preceded in death by his father, George E. Atkinson II; mother, Madlyn Love Burdette; brother, George E. Atkinson III; and step-sister, Mary E. Hardman.
Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Brenda "Hackney" Atkinson; daughters, Malena Boggess and her husband, Mike, of Liberty, and Maria Atkinson and her boyfriend, Jeremy Kinder, of South Charleston; grandchildren, James "Parker" Boggess and Alonyah Lee Kinder; two instant grandchildren, Brandon and Brandi Boggess; sister, Sandra Abbott of Charleston; half-brother, Eric Atkinson and his wife, Kris, of Kannapolis, North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Some of David''s favorite pastimes were camping with his closest friends, Doris and Danny Bowles and family, and playing with his grandchildren. David could always carry on a good conversation and always make you laugh. He never knew a stranger.
The funeral service will be 11am Saturday, March 12 at the North Hills Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Harper officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Sissonville with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #61, Clendenin.
A gathering of family and friends will be 6-8pm Friday at the church.
