Darrell Lee Hamilton "Abbe Smith", 80, passed way June 28, 2009 after a short illness
He was born December 14, 1928 the son of the late Reba Hamilton Smith. Darrell was also preceded in death by his step-father Ford Smith, care-giver for many years Cora Hammonds. Cora was his aunt and like a "second" mother. Also preceding him were his brothers Dee Smith, Lloyd Smith and Jerry Smith.
Left to remember Darrell are four sisters, Mae Bell, Martha Ross, Myrtle Moore, and Cathy Kershaw all of Ohio; his one brother Bobby Smith also of Ohio; also surviving him is his "second" family, Irvan Hammond of Eastlake, Ohio, Betty Harbaugh of Monroe Township, NJ, Madeline Carol Hammons of Strongsville, Ohio, Nancy Hanchosky of Clendenin, WV, Patsy Fedders, his guardian and caregiver with whom he made his home for the last fifteen years of Charleston, Bunnie Hrynko of Canfield, Ohio, David, Joseph and Randy Hammond and Pamela Bess all of Charleston; also many loving nieces, nephews and cousins and friends.
Many thanks to Rescare of Charleston and Kenova for giving Darrell many years of happiness and love in his final days. Thanks also to the wonderful Doctors and Nurses who tended to him during all of his illnesses. A very special thanks to all the staff of CAMC General Hospital.
The Funeral Service will be 2pm Thursday, July 2 at Long and Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville with Rev. Donnie Kiser officiating. Burial will follow in Jim Beane Cemetery, Clearview Heights Road, Sissonville.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 6-8pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
