Dallas Boggess, 82, of Ripley went to be with the Lord January 9, 2007 at home after a long illness.
As a boy, he grew up on the family farm, which was the home he loved and never forgot. As a young man, he attended Rock Springs Church in Goldtown. He was a WWII Army Veteran, having served with the Army Core of Engineers. Dallas served in three major campaigns: Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe, receiving Battlestars for each campaign. He also received the American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon, and the WWII Victory Ribbon. He was a member of The American Legion Post 0200.
Upon returning from the War, Dallas married his sweetheart Sylvia. Shortly thereafter, he went into partnership with his brother and stepfather and operated the family dairy farm in Goldtown for a number of years. Beginning in 1959, he and his wife owned and operated Boggess Grocery in Kenna, working side by side for the next twenty years. Upon retirement, they moved back to the family farm in Goldtown, remaining active working the land.
Dallas is preceded in death by: Wife, Sylvia Harrison Boggess, who loved and cherished him for over sixty years; Father-in-Law and dear friend, Charlie Harrison; Brother-in-Law and close friend, Den Harrison; Father, Roy Boggess; his gentle and kind Mother, Audrey Boggess Garnes; Stepfather and dear friend, Bill Garnes; Uncle, Bo Harrison; Maternal Grandparents, Sherman and Dana Harrison who (after his Dad passed away in 1928) along with his mother''s loving and guiding touch, raised him and his brother.
He is survived by: Daughters and their husbands, Judy and Reynolds Sayre of Given, WV and Joy and Tom Windnagel of Colorado Springs, CO; Brother and best friend, Bob Boggess of Kenna; Brother-in-heart, R.A. "Butch" Harrison of Kenna who grew up with Dallas; First Cousin and compassionate friend, Buddy Clendenin; Nephew and close friend, Larry David Boggess of Kenna; Four Grandchildren, and Three Great Grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends.
The Funeral Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 13 at Long and Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville with Rev. Carl Chambers officiating. Entombment with his beloved wife will follow at Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Sissonville with Military Graveside Rites provided by the American Legion Post 107, Ripley. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Friday, January 12 at the Funeral Home.
