Obituary

Curtis Ray Rhodes, Sr., 82, of Kenna, West Virginia, peacefully went to be with the Lord on September 24, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on July 6, 1943, in Jackson County, West Virginia, Curtis was the son of William Rhodes and Dicey Cunningham. He graduated from Ripley High School in 1961 and then built a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work.

On June 19, 1971, Curtis married the love of his life, Eunice Marie Harvey. Together, they shared 54 wonderful years, building a home where God was always at the center and love was abundant.

Curtis dedicated his career to public service, working as the Maintenance Superintendent for the City of Charleston until his retirement. In retirement, he embraced the outdoors, sports, and cherished every moment spent with his family. A true outdoorsman, Curtis found peace in the woods and joy on the water, especially while fishing at his favorite spot, Woodrum Lake. He was also his grandchildren's biggest fan, proudly cheering them on in baseball, football, soccer, basketball, golf, and dance, always dressed in team colors.

A man of deep faith and steady kindness, Curtis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched with his wisdom, humor, and unwavering support.

Curtis is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Eunice Marie (Harvey) Rhodes; their three children: daughter Melissa Monday of West Virginia and her children Samantha, Christopher (Katie), and Alexandra; son Curtis (Amanda) Rhodes, Jr. of Georgia and their children Hannah, Isaiah, Elijah, Luke, and Lenorah; and daughter Dr. Alisha (Jason) Anderson of Tennessee and their children Jacob (Jordan) and Abigail.

He is also lovingly remembered by his great-grandchildren: Isabella, Maximus, Bodhi, Harper, Sutton Rose, and Ellison.

Others left to cherish Curtis' memory are siblings Marie Goff of West Virginia, Darrell (Ruth) Rhodes of West Virginia, and Carl (Eileen) Rhodes of Kentucky, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who will continue to carry his memory with them.

His parents, William and Dicey, and his brothers Ronald, Edward, George, and Benjamin preceded him in death.

A private service will be held at Long and Fisher Funeral Home in Sissonville, West Virginia, with Pastor Gary Williams officiating.

Curtis Ray Rhodes, Sr. will be remembered for his strength, love for the outdoors, steadfast faith, and the boundless love for his family. He will be missed deeply and remembered always.
