Clifford Earl "Corky" Miller, 84, of Charleston, passed away at CAMC Memorial on Wednesday, December 12, 2012. Born January 18, 1928, in Sissonville, WV, he was the son of the late Alfred "Doug" and Lucy M. Miller. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lucille "Luci" (Bachman); 3 sons and their wives, Michael and Renita and Steven and Gina of Sissonville, and Jeffrey and Sheila of Palestine; 6 grandchildren, Sarah (Justin) Bailey, Douglas Miller, Steven Miller, Amy (BJ) Ray, Tiffany Miller, Nathan Miller; 3 step-grandchildren, Tiffany Smith, Josh and Stacy Valentine; 5 great-grandchildren, Evan Miller, Claire Bailey, Abby Shawver, Joey Miller, and Caden Ray. Also surviving are two brothers, Clyde (Vada) and Henry "Lummie" Miller, of Sissonville, and sister-in-law, Annilee Conley, of Spencer; and many nieces and nephews. He was a loving and caring husband and father, a member of Sissonville Humphreys Memorial U.M. Church, and in later years attended other local Methodist churches. Clifford retired from Union Carbide and Bayer Company in 1989 with 37 years service. He graduated from Sissonville High School in 1947 and was a member of the 1946 and 1947 undefeated football teams coached by Joe Sawyers. He was a long-time umpire for the Little League. As a veteran of the U.S. Army, he served as Staff Sgt. in the 7th Tank Co., 7th Infantry, in the Korean War. He was an ordained Methodist minister, serving as pastor at several churches in the Sissonville area. Clifford was an avid golfer, spending many enjoyable days with Luci and friends at Kanawha Country Club. Retiring part-time to Seven Lakes, NC, in 1989, he enjoyed golfing with fellow Carbide retirees. He was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge, Beni Kedem Temple, and Elks Lodge #202. Visitation will be held at Long and Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville, on Saturday, December 15, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 16, at 1:30 PM at the funeral home. Elk Lodge #202 will conduct service Saturday at 6:00 p.m. The family suggests voluntary donations be made to Humphreys Memorial U.M. Church, 8115 Sissonville Drive, Sissonville, WV 25320.
