Obituary

Charles Oral Sharps, 90, passed away peacefully in Cedar Grove Personal Care, Parkersburg on Friday, October 2, 2009. Previously he resided in Charleston, WV and Inverness, FL.
He was son of the late Charlie B. and Amanda Lupardus Sharps. He follows his wife, Mary Alice Sharps, in death and brothers, Audley and Darrell Sharps and sisters Ruth Brenneman and Thelma Chapman.
Charles attended Elkview High School and retired from Libby Owen Ford Glass Plant in 1974. He served in the Army commanded by General George Patton in the Battle of the Bulge and was honorably discharged in March of 1946. He enjoyed family and friends and spent a great deal of time fishing, hunting and gardening.
He is survived by a son, Michael, and daughter-in-law, Carolyn, of Parkersburg, WV; daughter, Patricia J. Smith and son-in-law, George Smith of Louisburg, NC; granddaughter, Allison, and twin great-granddaughters of Greenville, NC; and brother, Ronald R. Sharps of Tampa, FL.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11am Tuesday October 6 at the Long and Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville with Pastor Bill J. Bartlett officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memorial Gardens, Cross Lanes with Military Graveside rites provided by the Army National Guard Honor Guard, South Charleston and the American Legion Post 61, Clendenin.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 2-4, and 6-8pm Monday at the funeral home.
