Carroll F. Cunningham, 81, of Charleston, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at Hubbard Hospice House surrounded by his loving family after a short illness.

Carroll was born May 5, 1934, to the late Leftridge Marvin "Red" Cunningham and Ora Inez Whittington Cunningham. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Oral and William "Bill" Cunningham; and sisters, Phyllis Gammon and Julia Derrick; and nephew, Roger "Butch" Derrick.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of fifty seven years, Margaret Shaffer Cunningham; son, Steven A. Cunningham, and wife, Laura; daughter, Jill Cunningham Anderson, and husband, Joey, all of Charleston. Grandchildren, Jared and Abigail Cunningham, Chance and Owen Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.

Carroll was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather. He was most happy surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a cherished uncle to several nieces and nephews.

Carroll was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a 1952 graduate of Sissonville High School, and was a life long resident of the Sissonville community. He retired with thirty three years of service from Union Carbide/Bayer.

Carroll''s favorite pastimes were attending his grandchildren''s sporting and school events, drinking coffee, reading the newspaper and spending time at Barry''s garage.

A celebration of Carroll''s life will be 11am Saturday, March 5, at Long & Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville with Pastor Loretta Isaiah officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Sissonville.

A gathering of family and friends will be 6-8pm Friday at the funeral home.
