Carrie Johnson Mairs,87, of Pocatalico passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at the Hubbard Hospice House. Carrie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 38 years, Gordon Mairs.
She is survived by her son , Jarrell Mairs of Fairplain, daughter, Aretta Mairs Murphy and husband, Michael Murphy, of Kenna, Bonita Mairs, of Centerville, VA. Six Grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Carrie was a devout Christian and until she became ill attended the Charleston Mountain Mission and had since she was a teenager. Carrie and Gordon were founders of the Pocatalico Community Church.
During World War II, Carrie worked at Carnegie Steel and Fletcher''s Enamel as a Rosie Riveter. In later years, Carrie and other Riveters were honored in a local Charleston area parade for faithfully serving their community during the war.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Susan Cavender and staff; Shirley ("Tempie") Wandling King for faithfully caring for and loving our mother during her final months; and Donna Miller Mairs for her unwavering love and support during the final hours.
Funeral service will be 300 PM Sunday at the Long and Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev Buddy Mairs and Rev. Fairley McCormick officiating. Burial will follow in the Floral Hills Gardens of Memories , Pocatalico. Friends may call form 1:00 PM until service time at the Long and Fisher Funeral Home, Pocatalico.
