Obituary

Carl Melvin Thomas, Age 90, of Charleston, WV went home to be with the Lord on September 6, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Christina (Beaver) Thomas, wife Joyce (Chandler) Thomas, daughter Lisa (Thomas) Harrison, and granddaughter Sarah Jenkins. Brothers and Sisters, Carol, Bill, Frank, Joyce, and Donna.

He is survived by his daughter Tammy (John) Jenkins, sister Jo Canterbury, and granddaughter Rebecca (Jarrod) Stowers. Great-grandchildren, Josiah, Jase, and Rilee Stowers. Son-in-law Tim Harrison and Sister-in-law Violet (Chandler) Foster. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews of which he may have a couple of “favorite nieces.”

Carl graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School. He was proud to have served in the United States Army.

His greatest joy in life was his family, his flower gardens and working outside. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed their visits and hugs. He always made sure they had money for ice cream.

The most important event of Carl’s life came in 2021 when he trusted Christ as his Saviour. In Carl’s words to his doctor one day, “I’ve had a blessed life.” Because of this, our sadness is eased with the promise that we will see him again.

Carl loved going to his church Bible Missionary Baptist Church until he physically could no longer go. He always wanted to make sure the kids at church had snacks and juice.

Special thanks to Dad’s VA Home Base Team and Hospice Team and his caregivers Kamica and Dorothy and his friend Bob who continued to visit after they retired from Sam’s.

In lieu of flowers may you consider a donation to Hospice or Veterans Affairs.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026 at Long & Fisher Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Garden of Memories.
