William Hansel "Bill" Carney, 79, of Charleston went to be with our Lord on January 28, 2009, at his residence. He was born June 14, 1929, on Dog Fork, Kenna, where he was raised. Bill graduated from Sissonville High School in 1946. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. After he returned home, he was employed by the Union Carbide Institute plant for 31 years. He retired in 1982.
Bill was a member of Goldtown Community Church. An avid golfer, he shot his age a few times and now leaves behind many friends on the course.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville R. and Sarah J. Harrison Carney; three sisters; and two brothers.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Ruby Burdette Carney; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard D. and Vicky Carney; grandsons and their wives, B.J. and Jennifer Carney and Lance and Anitra Carney; and five loving great-grandchildren who were the love of his life.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, February 1, at Long & Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville, under the direction of the Rev. Aaron Jones.
Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, also at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Goldtown Community Church, 1713 Route 21, Kenna, WV 25248.
