Arthur Carrol Hobbs, 90, was born on February 24, 1936, in Bellwood, West Virginia, to Rita and Charles Hobbs. He passed away peacefully at his home on July 25, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Arthur often shared cherished memories of growing up in the coal camps of Ameagle, West Virginia, describing it as a wonderful childhood that shaped the man he became. He graduated from Clear Fork High School in 1954 and continued his education at West Virginia Tech in Montgomery.

While attending Tech in early 1957, Arthur met the love of his life, Marybelle. He loved telling the story of their courtship: Marybelle would wait until the light in his dorm room went out and just happened to be crossing the train tracks at the same time he was walking by. With his trademark humor, Arthur would always say, "She chased me until I caught her." Just six months later, they were married on September 7, 1957, beginning a beautiful life together.

Arthur and Marybelle were blessed with three children: Lynn (Bill) Bostic, Doug (Chris) Hobbs, and Donna (Jimmy) Beasley. He was a proud and devoted Papa to four grandchildren: Billy Bostic, Asia Lee, Kira (Daniel) Berry, and Ryan (Briana) Hobbs; two step-grandchildren, Britney and Brandon Beasley; and one step-great-grandchild, Zayden Beasley. Arthur's greatest joy was being a husband, father, and Papa, and his family was always at the center of his life.

Arthur dedicated 39 years of service to Columbia Gas Transmission as a Systems Analyst. Following his retirement, he continued serving his community as a substitute custodian for Kanawha County Schools, taking great pride in every job he performed.

His passion for young people and athletics became one of his greatest legacies. For 40 years, Arthur faithfully kept the scorebook for Sissonville High School basketball and later spent 11 years keeping statistics for the football team. During the final 15 years of his service, he lovingly created memory books for every senior football player, ensuring each student had a keepsake to treasure. He also served as scorekeeper for the West Virginia State High School Tournaments and the WVIAC tournaments for many years.

Arthur devoted countless hours to coaching Little League baseball, tee-ball, girls' softball, and midget league football. He was also a dedicated youth leader at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, mentoring generations of young people in the Sissonville community. His influence reached far beyond the playing field and the church, leaving a lasting impact on countless lives.

Arthur was deeply devoted to his family, his faith, his friends, and his community. In 2024, he was honored with a Legislative Citation recognizing his lifelong service to Sissonville High School and the community he loved so dearly.

Arthur often said, "My reason for coaching was not to win; it was to teach the kids. It was all about the kids." Those words perfectly reflected the way he lived his life—with humility, kindness, and a genuine desire to help others. He made a difference in the lives of so many and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of Arthur's life will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Sissonville, West Virginia. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Arthur's honor.
